No. 7 | 5 Essential Oil Remedies For Summer

Summer has finally hit New York! Along with the beautifully sunny days, we get an added portion of smog, sweat, and stinks. To keep myself fresh and clean, I turn to my little essential oil collection, amongst other things. Below are a few of the essential oil remedies I use in the summer:

Sunburn Relief Spray: Lavender Oil + Aloe Vera Oil

I add about 10 drops of lavender essential oil into half a bottle of aloe vera oil and fill the rest of the bottle up with water. If you want more of a salve than a spray, just leave the water out. The lavender will calm the sting of your burns and will reduce redness and help your burn heal faster. The aloe will moisturize and cool your skin down.

Rehydrating Lemon Water: Lemon Oil + Water

You can trade the lemon out for a wild orange or any kind of citrus oil. Just make sure you’re using edible oils! The citrus will give your body lots of yummy flavor and antioxidants as you quench your thirst. Just add 2-3 drops to your water.

Repairing Body Oil: Coconut Oil + Vitamin E Cream + Frankincense Oil

I spent years as a lifeguard and all of that sunshine definitely did a number on my skin. This little oil blend helps repair my damaged skin and keeps it moisturized during those dry summer days. I fill a bottle up halfway with my coconut oil (or any carrier oil), then I mix in about 10 drops of frankincense oil and 1-2 teaspoons of Vitamin E Cream. You can also you either Vitamin E or C oil for this.

Cooling Towels: Eucalyptus + Peppermint + Towel

These are my absolute favorite treat after a long yoga flow. They will cool you down instantly after being in the hot summer sun and will leave you smelling minty fresh. Peppermint is also really good for getting rid of those nasty headaches you get when you’re in the sun for too long. To make these, you just need to soak a face cloth in a mixture of water with 10-15 drops of peppermint oil and 10-15 drops of eucalyptus oil. Then roll that baby up and put him in the freezer for a few hours.

Sun Energy Diffuser Blend: Lemongrass Oil + Orange Oil

There’s something about citrus smells that just gets me in the mood for summer. Maybe it’s because of their ability to wake us up and re-energize our senses. When I need a quick pick me up, I turn to this diffuser blend. I just mix about 3-4 drops of each into water and let the good times roll.

Until next time,
